Welcome to our spanking new, bigger and better integrated web store.
Here, we start a clean slate and we cannot wait to show what we have got to offer to our valued Band of Thieves. If you're new to Thrifty Thieves, hello and welcome. Get to know to know our story and how far we have come since we've started.
WHY THRIFTY THIEVES
We came out with the name in 2015 in a cafe with the idea of a thrifty store offering upcycled and refurbished thrift wear. The idea was put to a halt and in 2017, Thrifty Thieves was finally conceptualised with the same idea but focusing on resort-holiday style instead of vintage.
In the same year, we established our web store on a Swedish platform (Tictail) and had our very first pop-up. As one of the pioneers to use mainly resin/acrylic for most of our styles, we launched our debut collection with 50/50 handmade and curated earrings.
We operated at pop-ups every fortnightly in 2018 and focused heavily on building our brand. We had a slow start.
In April, we had our first breakthrough - Thrifty Thieves was featured in Refinery29 as one of the most popular products in Tictail.
In May, we had our international presence. We were blessed to be hand-picked by the good people at Tictail to have our products stocked in New York and Stockholm at their Tictail Market.
Shortly after in June, we provided sponsorship to Qlothè, and eventually became the very first brand we've partnered with. Some time in July, we hit 2K followers on our Instagram.
In September, we've had just hit 3K followers. We also had a complete product photography revamp. The new idea was inspired by a lifestyle artist who matches everyone objects with Pantone cards. To remain distinctive in the market, we adopted the idea with the intention to reflect the colours of our products as accurately as possible and to be the first in the industry to use this art direction. In the same month, together with Qlothè, we were given the opportunity to work on a 9/9 surprise box for Lazada.
The last quarter of the year went by in a blink. We launched our first collaboration collection with Qlothè in November. The highlight of the year was in December when we rented a co-working space. By then we had over 6K followers on our Instagram. To end 2018 and kick start 2019 with a blast, we threw our largest giveaway - a one-year supply of earrings for the new year.
BLANK CANVAS IN 2019
Tictail was acquired by Shopify, which simply meant that our web store had to move. This also meant that Tictail Market in Stockholm and New York will be closed for good. We'd like to thank the team over at Tictail, without them we definitely would not be where we are right now.
Now, with this clean slate and blank canvas, our goal is to grow Thrifty Thieves into a wholesome resort-holiday style brand. We hope you like our new look and stay with us on our journey to see what's more to come.
